Hundreds of years ago, an extraordinary type of cow entered southern Africa. The Nguni Hides are named after the Nguni tribe, who traveled from the north central and eastern parts of Africa and settled in what is now South Africa, crossing the Zambezi River in 600 CE. Descended from the ancient Sanga longhorn cows, depicted in rock art from 8000 years ago in Lybia and the Sahara, as well as in Egyptian pyramids and San rock art, the Nguni Hides are a robust breed.
