Pitted Mission Olives in a 352ml glass jar, steeped in olive oil, salt, vinegar, herbs and garlic. Made on Wilgerboom Farm in Middelpos district in the Karoo. The Mission olive is a cultivar of olive developed in California, by Spanish missions along El Camino Real in the late 18th century. The Mission olive has been included in the Ark of Taste, an international catalog of endangered heritage foods maintained by the Slow Food movement.
The story of Wilgerboom Farm: The Great Grandfather of this farming family was exploring the farm four generations ago, when he let his horse drink from a little stream on the property. He dropped a willow tree switch in the water and after some time when he returned, the switch had sprouted and was growing.
In the Karoo we know all about preserving for later. We use whatever is in season. Due to the high demand for our tasty products we might run out of stock and you will have to wait until next season for at fresh batch.
